Disclaimer: The following is a fictional story inspired by the experiences of progressive lens wearers. It is not intended to be considered a statement of fact.
Once upon a time, I decided to upgrade my glasses to a pair of progressive lenses. I thought to myself, "This is awesome! I'll be able to see well at different distances without having to take off my glasses and put on another pair."
Little did I know, it was the beginning of a hilarious (and sometimes frustrating) journey.
First, I had to get used to the new lens. It took me a while to figure out exactly where on the lens I could clearly see. As I keep moving my head up and down, side to side, trying to find that sweet spot, I might look like I'm looking at people around me.
Don't forget about the effort of adjusting the glasses on the nose. The slightest up and down movement could have ruined my entire field of vision. I quickly learned to avoid any sudden movements like nodding or even just looking down.
But the real fun starts when I start using my new lenses in my everyday life. Like when I went out to eat with some friends. I looked at the menu and saw that the prices were listed in small print. "What kind of maniac is this?" I thought. "Why did they make the menu so hard to read?"
I took off my glasses and put them back on, hoping it would magically make the prices easier to see. Alas, that's not the case.
So, I decided to hold the menu closer to my face, but it made me look like an old man with poor eyesight. I tried squinting, but it only made things worse. In the end, I had to turn to my friends, who laughed at me while looking at the price.
Once I wanted to go to the cinema to watch a movie. I sat there trying to look at the screen without looking at it, but it didn't work. The screen was either too blurry or too sharp, depending on where I was looking.
I ended up having to tilt my head up and down to see different parts of the screen, which made me feel like I was on a rollercoaster ride watching a movie. My deskmate probably thought I had some kind of medical emergency.
Despite all the challenges, I refuse to let go of my progressive lenses. After all, I've invested a lot of money in them. I keep telling myself that I'll get used to them eventually.
do you know? I do get used to them... a bit.
I learned to tilt my head enough to see things clearly, and I became an expert at finding the sweet spot on the lenses. I'm even a little smug when I watch my non-progressive-wearing friends keep changing glasses.
But I still have moments of frustration. Like when I go to the beach and can't see anything because the sun is shining through my glasses. Or when I'm trying to play a sport and have to deal with glasses that keep sliding.
Overall, my experience with progressive lenses has been a roller coaster. But I have to say, the ups and downs are worth it. I can see it clearly now, and this is something to be thankful for.
So here's what I say to my progressive lens wearers: Keep your head up (literally) and keep adjusting your glasses. It can feel like a struggle at times, but eventually, you'll be able to see the world in all its clear, beautiful glory.
For those considering buying progressive lenses: get ready for a wild ride. But in the end, it's worth it.
